Antarctica

As I was processing landscapes from Antarctica it became apparent that the color palette was very limited. Blue, black, and white. Restricting colors to pure black and white had a marked effect.

With this simple change I had unrestricted access to tonal values without color balance issues. That, and the striking graphic effect afforded with pure shades of gray, prompted my decision to do the majority of landscapes in black and white.

Photographs were taken in raw format. All postprocessing was done in Adobe Camera Raw. Only global changes to tonal values were made — no dodging or burning was done. I have nothing against this technique. It's just that the photographs stand on their own without any additional manipulation.
